Brutalist Urban Loft
Berlin, Germany
A conversion of an industrial warehouse in Berlin that celebrates raw materials and monumental proportions. Exposed concrete, steel, and light create an atmosphere of industrial elegance.
Berlin's industrial heritage is written in brick and concrete. For this loft renovation, we wanted to strip away the decades of partitions and reveal the raw, honest structure of the original 1925 foundry.
The design is an exercise in restraint. We inserted three monolithic volumes—clad in blackened steel and oak—to house the private functions, leaving the rest of the space as an expansive, double-height gallery for living.
Lighting was key to transforming the 'cold' industrial shell into a 'warm' home. We utilized original factory windows and added targeted linear LED systems that graze the concrete textures at night, highlighting the imperfections that tell the building's story.
